About Stephanie McCune Glass
My love of art and making started in my hometown of Beaufort, NC. I grew up by the ocean in an old, old house with an attic full of junk and plenty of time to find ways to entertain myself. Creating has always given me peace and purpose, and what began as costume making, painting, and crafting in my mother’s sewing room has morphed into a career as a glass designer and maker.
I began my journey with glass in 2014 when my family gifted me a hotshop class at Penland School of Crafts in Spruce Pine, NC. My expectations of a two-and-a-half week stint in rural Appalachia were completely blown out of the water when I arrived at my first real experience with the professional art world. There I met artists of all disciplines who had created lives around making and who were working as artists full-time! The experience completely redirected my path, and after graduating from NC State University in December of 2014, I relocated to Asheville, NC to pursue a real-life education in glass artistry. Over the years have worked alongside many, many other WNC glassblowers, taught glassblowing workshops, and began building my own collection of wares.
